The 2nd Alison Hughes Medal event has just completed at Merewether Bowling Club.
This club competition is in memory of Alison Hughes who was the Patron of the Women’s Bowling Club and past stalwart of the Women’s Club. It was originally an initiative by Alison and her husband Tony to encourage women bowlers to participate in club bowling each week and into the competitive bowling arena. Over the past 2 years the number of women members have increased from 5 to 31 members.
The format is Mixed Versatility Triples with a computer generated draw. At least one female bowler must be in the team, bowlers play 6 ends in each position, with the female playing as the skip on the last 6 ends.
The initial games and of course the finals game had the audience on the edge of their seats in each game. The final was a close game between the teams and the outcome was not evident until the last few ends. Team Jenkins consisting of Hilary Jenkins, Kevin Laffey and Greg Nelmes were against Team McMillan consisting of Kay McMillan, John Matthew and Peter Walker.
The Alison Hughes Medal winners for 2019 are Team Jenkins -
Hilary Jenkins, Kevin Laffey and Greg Nelmes.
