Women’s Major Singles 2020
30th August 2020
By Laraine Clifford
Hilary Jenkins versus Kath Cornish.
On a warm nearly spring afternoon a light north westerly blowing, the toss was won by Kath and the game began.
Kath got off to an early lead and by end 5 the score was tied at 3 all. The game progressed shot for shot and from the tenth end Hilary had a run of winning ends to lead 13-8 by the 14th and 20-10 on the 18th end. Kath fought back with the score 21-15 on the 21st end and two ends later Hilary had prevailed 25-15.
The game was played in good spirit - the spectators were entertained by the calibre of the shots played which didn’t indicate the difference in the score.
Lesley as Marker (Paddles) holding up the number of paddles whether Blue (Kath) or Red (Hilary) indicated to the spectator gallery the shots before the scoreboard could be updated .
What a great idea!! Very professional.
Congratulations To Hilary the Winner - the New Major Singles Champion 2020 with Kath a very worthy runner-up.
