From Minors to Majors in a comeback for the Ages

Mens Major Singles Final 2020

Sunday 23rd August saw the Major Singles Club Championship take place at Merewether Bowling Club.  In blustery cool conditions defending Champion Cal Starrett shooting for his fourth consective title win was up against  2019 Minor Singles Champion Adam Chaffey.

Chaffey started well leading 5-1 before Starrett levelled at 5 all and slowly gained the ascendency leading 13-8 and then 21-11. When Starrett picked up back to back 4's to lead 29-11 his fourth Major Singles title at MBC looked secure. Chaffey then picked up nine shots across the next four ends to trail 29-20.  His late surge continued winning the next seven ends to draw level at 29-29 then score two shots to complete a remarkable comeback to take the 2020 title 31-29.

Clubs Pairs Semi Final had Keith Woollett & Adam Jones defeat Mark Baker & Neil Gibson 27-16.

Whilst the Quarter Final saw John Snedden & Wal Stefanzyn score a four on the last end against Peter Burgess & Jim Sillett to level at 18-18 and force an extra end.  Snedden & Stefanzyn scored one shot to take the game and advance to the Semi Final against Cameron Chaffey & Leon Chaffey with the winner to take on the Woollett & Jones combination in the Final.
