ABOUT US

Merewether Bowling Club is undoubtedly Newcastle most friendly club. We have been a part of the Merewether community for over 60 years and are privileged to service our local residents. Merewether Bowling Club is a great place for people of all ages, despite what some people may think, we are not just a club for the elderly.

We offer a great range of facilities catering for families, friends or anyone that’s looking to meet some new people. Enjoy a great meal at our affordable restaurant or hire out one of our barbeque facilities and get your friends and family together and cook up a feast. If you’re looking for something fun to do, you can enjoy a game of bowls for only $2 per person.

We also offer a great range of facilities suitable for birthdays, surprise parties, engagements, reunions, christenings, corporate events, anniversaries and small weddings. The function room is a completely private location for your party with direct access to the bar area with drinks at club prices. You can decorate as you wish with the option of bringing your own entertainment or iPod dock. So what are you waiting for come on in and enjoy our friendly club.

History

Merewether Bowling Club was opened on the 6 February 1956 on the site of the Caldwell St Colliery. It was initially opened with only one green, but in 1960 a second green was established following the closure of the adjacent railway line. In 1967, the Club House was opened, at a cost of $100,000.The club has two synthetic greens, with a recently renovated Club House including a separate restaurant and bar with an additional spacious function room and outdoor barbecue facilities.

On the 23rd of December 2015 soft earth at the rear of the club gave way causing our back fence, chairs, trees and the edge of one of the greens to slip into a neighbouring void. This was caused by rain water affecting the development site at the rear of the club, where 37 units are currently being built.
